Battery-hybrid ferry Elektra's traffic disruption

On Wednesday 23.8.2023 at around 15:40 the battery-hybrid ferry Elektra experienced a temporary technical malfunction, as a result of which the vessel came into contact with the rubber fenders of the dolphin on the Nauvo side.

No persons were injured and there were no environmental damages and only minor paint damages occurred on the vessel.

The vessel was out of service for about an hour, and the vessel is now back in traffic at the Parainen–Nauvo-route.

The commuter ferry on the Utö route is named m/s Utö

The commuter ferry Baldur, that operates on the Utö route, has during docking been painted in the company’s colours, and its general appearance has been revamped. The name of the vessel was changed during docking, the new name of the vessel is m/s Utö.

The commuter ferry m/s Utö will return to scheduled traffic on the Utö route on Wednesday 14 June 2023. To celebrate the day, Finferries offers coffee and cake to passengers on board. During the first trip, m/s Utö, stops at each port for ten minutes, so that those living along the route have the opportunity to get to know the vessel and enjoy coffee and cake during the stay in the port.

Commuter ferries on the Utö route will transfer to the ownership of Suomen Saaristovarustamo Oy at noon on 19 May 2023

Following a transaction confirmed today, 19 May 2023, the commuter ferries M/S Baldur, M/S Kökar and M/S Tuuli will transfer to the ownership of Suomen Saaristovarustamo Oy at noon today. Under the terms of the transaction, responsibility for the operation of the Utö route will also transfer to Suomen Saaristovarustamo Oy.

On 31 May 2023, M/S Baldur will be docked at the Naantali shipyard, where the commuter ferry will be painted in the company’s colours, and its general appearance will be revamped. The commuter ferry is expected to return to service on 14 June 2023.

While M/S Baldur is at the shipyard, traffic service on the route will be provided by the reserve vessel M/S Kökar.

Suomen Saaristovarustamo Oy has signed a conditional agreement on the purchase of the vessels operating the Utö route

Suomen Saaristovarustamo Oy, part of the Suomen Lauttaliikenne Group, has on 2 May 2023, signed a conditional agreement on the purchase of the vessels ms Baldur and ms Kökar owned by Saariston Meritie Oy, and ms Tuuli owned by Kuljetus Savolainen Oy.

Finalising the trade will transfer the service agreement, operating commitment and personnel of the Utö route vessels to Suomen Saaristovarustamo Oy. The deal is due to be completed by 19 May 2023.
